Interventional Non-Surgical Treatments
These procedures are performed without surgery by interventional radiologists. These physicians specialize in the use of X-rays, Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) and other techniques such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) to see inside the body without surgery. Flexible thin tubes (catheters) are inserted through skin or blood vessels and guided to the treatment (like heart angioplasty)
As it is done by interventional Radiologist, he can see inside the body without opening it through CT scan, ultrasound, DSA thereby treating exact site of disease without effecting surrounding structures.

Interventional radiologists treats a liver tumor with RFA. A video monitor displays real-time images & Multipolar console of the Liver cancer treatment.

Varicose vein
Varicose vein of legs is common, affecting 1-15% of adult men and 20-25% of adult women. Saphenous vein insufficiency is the most common presenting with symptoms, which include pain, oedema, fatigue, varicose veins and venous ulcers.

Radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins involves ablating the wall of the vein using a bipolar generator and catheters with sheathable electrodes. The interventional radiologist accesses the saphenous vein just above or below the knee percutaneously via an intravenous cannula. Tiny electrode at the tip of the catheter ablate the walls of your varicose vein and causes them to collapse.

Other treatment options for varicose veins
1. Conservative Treatment: - Elevating and flexing your legs can help reduce leg swelling and relieve other symptoms.
2. Compression Stockings: - Compression stockings are elastic stockings that squeeze your veins and stop excess blood from flowing backward You may be required to wear compression stockings daily for the rest of your life.
3. Sclerotherapy: - This is only for short segment disease.
4. Vein Stripping Surgery: - It is a major surgery. Physician disconnects and ties off all major varicose vein branches associated with the saphenous vein, he then removes the saphenous vein and varicose veins from your leg. The recurrence rate is too high as compared to RFA and it leaves ugly scars.
